Yitro

The minister of a foreign service has the ability to administer the most profound change.

Yitro was Tziporah’s father, Moses’ father-in-law, and the administrative genius behind the leadership structure of Israel. But before that he was the high priest of Midian, a pagan region bordering Egypt. Yitro was also a primary advisor to the Pharaoh. Unique to all biblical characters, Yitro turned his life completely around, from being at the epoch of corrupt idolatry to one of the fundamental leaders in the Jewish camp, to the extent that an entire Torah portion bears his name. It is a lesson we should take to heart: it matter less where we start but where we end up.
