I understand that the Rebbe’s directives are applicable to all times but medical technology has developed a lot since the Rebbe stated his opinion on doing an ultrasound and there are now procedures which can be done in utero to save the fetus sometimes when its not developing normally, so there is a ‘nafka mina’ in doing an ultrasound to see if the fetus is developing normally or not.

    Dear Rabbi Jacobson,

I stopped episode 190 in the middle because I felt it necessary to comment in a most positive way regarding your answer to the question raised about maintaining a relationship with non-Jewish children.

I realized, but tell me if I am wrong, that the halachic discussions on this subject are not generally favorable to maintaining a relationship. I know you don’t need me to be proud of you, yet I was in fact very proud of you for focusing on the “mentchlichkite” of the matter and the importance of extending good will to the next generation, Jew and non-Jew, and how much more important within ones own blood line. I imagine it must be particularly hard for a Chassidic man to look back and maintain a sense of responsibility and purpose for a situation that perhaps one wishes to forget. Yet these children deserve the love of two parents, even if the family was desolved as an integral unit going forward.

    Great answer!
