Courage To Break With Routines and Habits

Fear is one of the most debilitating — and invisible — forces that we need to contend with in life. How does one find courage to face fear? It seems like a catch-22 situation: Fear is the antithesis of courage. If you have fear, how can you muster up courage to fight fear; and if you have courage, then you have no need to fear the fear. Is there a way our of this quagmire?

All this gets more complicated when you take into consideration your being comfortable with your routines and habitual traps. Your comfort zone coupled with your fears create a formidable resistance to facing challenges and being proactive in finding solutions. Is there hope?

Please join Rabbi Jacobson, in this pre-Tisha B’Av talk, and learn how to enter into the dark abyss where our fears reside, and into the crevices where our comfort zones hold us hostage, and come away with greater strength than ever. Fear and habits contain enormous energy — but that energy is imploded and inverted, entangling us in their contorted tentacles. Discover the secret method of converting and transforming that energy into a powerful force of growth and renewal.

I have read and enjoyed your 60 Days book to prepare for the Yamim Noraim as well as your Omer calendar, Last night was my first time tuning in to one of your live talks. After watching for awhile, I found myself weary of the philosophizing and wanting to find out the “secret method.” At some points, I didn’t quite understand the point to what occurred as an ever-meandering conversation. Feeling confused and bored, I tuned out. Perhaps I’ll go back and review the video. Perhaps not.

There were so many parts of this video that I related to. I have dealt with emotional pain, and fear for my previous experiences. Listening to his was very encouraging, to see where I have taken steps through the concept of commitments, and replacing fear with changing the reality. When you are passing through the sting, recovery seemed so very slow in motion. In my most agonizing moment, Hashem seemed to plant in my mind to focus on the word “covenant”. This caused me to relate to covenant living as I begin to pray from the siddur at home. Faithfully seeking HIS presence when I could not trust my emotional state, brought me to the place today that I am healed largely from that experience. It was great to hear this message as it seemed to be a summary of my experience. Thank you for not condemning the fearful but showing a path forward. I look foward to the books I ordered as a further explore these themes.
