Is Joy a Verb or a Noun?

MP3 PRINT

“How can I find joy in my life?”, “how can I become a happy person?” is one of the most common questions people ask. But the very question assumes — wrongly — that joy and happiness is a commodity that needs to be acquired. That they are not our natural state of being, not who we are, but something we become. But how do we know that? What makes you so sure that joy is a verb and not a noun? Perhaps that certainty is a direct symptom and outgrowth of our own subjective despondency — making us feel that we are not happy people, and not deserving of joy? Many people say that if my life were better I would be happy. Maybe the opposite is the truth: If you were happy your life would be better.

Please join Rabbi Jacobson in this Adar workshop and discover that you are a reservoir filled with joy. Your soul is brimming with overflowing happiness waiting to be released. But there is a big but that is blocking it: You. Your fears and defense mechanisms impede your inner joy from expressing itself in your life. Learn what you can do to remove these obstacles and barriers and allow yourself — your true, happy self — to emerge and be who you were born to be.
